There is almost no limit to what you can do at Buxton, but a brief (and incomplete) listing includes:

  • Studio arts, ceramics and photography (film and digital)
  • Music, including chamber ensembles, orchestra, choral activities, vocal groups, drumming and percussion, theory and composition
  • Dance, including West African, Afro-Caribbean, modern and traditional types – both individual and group
  • Drama, including three full-length plays per year and the chance to more fully participate via a ‘drama minor’ – a group that manages our dramatic events
  • Creative writing

皇冠体育appEach Friday, we come together as a school to enjoy a creative activity organized by the student-run Recreation Committee. Ranging from ‘skit night’ to a campus-wide game of Capture the Flag to a dance party, our Fridays are never mundane – and always a good time to reconnect, blow off steam and have a blast.

皇冠体育appThroughout the week, students also participate in causes and groups that speak to their individual interests.

Fall Arts Weekend / Spring Arts Weekend

Twice a year, Buxton invites families to experience first-hand our esteemed arts programs and the incredible accomplishments of our students. These weekends are special times, filled with displays of studio art, photography and ceramics displays as well as live performances of dance, music and drama.

皇冠体育appWeekends also include tours, Q&As and academic panel discussions. All current and prospective parents are welcome to attend.

Excursions

皇冠体育appOur students are invited to attend any number of excursions throughout the school year, from a Friday night trip to a bowling alley and outings to local movie theaters on Saturday nights to weekly figure drawing classes at Williams College and thrice-weekly trips to a local ski mountain during the winter. Buxton also arranges regular trips to New York City, Boston, and Albany for the students to attend art openings, theater productions, museums visits, and academic lectures.

Testimonials

  • "Buxton has given me the freedom to be the person I want to be, make the art I want to make, and learn the things I want to learn. At Buxton we learn not only in the classroom, but in the community. We learn how to be good to each other and how to support each other. Buxton has so much to offer students, both inside the classroom and outside of it."

We learn how to work with others and respect each other’s spaces. Our education surrounds us and we learn new things everyday.”
